ISO/DIS 16069 Safety Way Guidance Systems (SWGS) ISO (International Organization for Standardization ), TC/CEN-145 (EUs Technical Committee), DIN (Deutches Insitut für Normung) and ANSI (American National Standard Institute) have during the recent years worked to obtain consensus on ISO/DIS 16069 which will standardize SWGS (Safety Way Guidance Systems) throughout the world. A person finding himself in an emergency situation in the subways of Paris, London, Oslo, Madrid, New York or in a hospital in Japan or China, will never have any difficulty in "reading" and understanding the SWGS' standardized escape-route symbols. ISO 16069 graphical symbols was agreed upon November 2001 and the "Draft International Standard ISO/DIS 16069 (ISO/TC 145/SC2, secretariat DIN) Graphical symbols - Safety Signs - Safety Way Guidance systems (SWGS)" had a voting termination 2003-03-24 over the use of PL (Photoluminescent) and EL (electrical) powered LLL/SWGS. Metal Safe Sign offers cost-effective passive safety way guidance systems (SWGS) according to ISO 16069 / DIN 67510 Part III / ANSI Store order # X173390. These are now approved as standards and have taken effect world wide for all public buildings, hotels and all other buildings where the public has free access. As a reference can be mentioned that the newly renovated Oslo County Jail, has entirely been outfitted only with PL-products and passed the Fire Inspections with "flying colors". No EL-SWGS was needed due to the extreme good afterglow effects of the new Strontium Alumninate based products on high- and low-placed SWGS. Further, all public buildings in New York larger than 25 sqm must comply to these standards.
